Detailed submissions for naming contest

Post by: Traci - 01:45 PM

Ok, it's time for the poll!

We're finishing up the poll and it will be right above this blog entry when it's finished, likely within the next couple of hours.

The poll will show the person's name, and the theme name. There are too many examples listed for each person to put specifics on the poll, so all of the specifics are listed below.

Voting will end on May 30th, and winners will be announced on May 31st. You may vote once every 24 hours with a single IP address.

Contest!!!

Post by: Traci - 08:15 PM

I know I know, I JUST made a blog post about some new beads, but I wanted to keep the contest announcement separate so it would be more visible :)

First, an explanation: I'm awful at naming beads. To date, I've named over 1,200 beads. I can make the beads, clean them, core them, photograph them, list them, ship them... but I just can't name them. I'll sit here at look at the photos in front of me for a bead I need to list, and my brain totally locks up. Sometimes I'll sit here for 5 minutes trying to think of a name. There are times that I give up and I ask my husband for a name, and he throws out "Dragonshark" and I'm so frustrated by that point that I actually use the name. Yes, I named a bead Dragonshark, thanks honey.

Anyway, here's the contest: Give me a theme for names. It can be anything you want, just as long as they'll translate into cool bead names. Your theme needs to have at LEAST 20 viable names that I can use. Just a quick example, you can give me cats (but don't do that cause it would be cheating!), and some names that could come from that are Calico, Tabby, Persian, etc etc. It doesn't really even need to be a theme, it can just be 20 cool names for beads. If you go to my flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/beadsbytraci/ You can type in names in the search bar to see if I've used them before... chances are I have, which is why I'm running out of names. Surely your themes will be better than mine. I once named an entire day's worth of beads after Arrested Development stuff (Funke, Maeby, Bobloblawslawblog (I'm not even kidding), Tobias, Lucille...) It won't be hard to impress me, I promise!

Only one theme per person please so it doesn't get too confusing! Make sure you like your theme, because I'm only accepting one per person! If you send me a theme that someone else has already used, I'll write you back and tell you BZZZZZT, try again!

So what do you get out of it?

Everyone that submits an idea to me will get a freebie next time they order from me. You WILL need to remind me, so just put it in your order notes or convo me that you submitted a theme and I owe you one.

BUT wait, there's more!

I'll take submissions through May 20th. On May 20th, I'll post all the ideas on a poll. The poll will run through the end of May. You'll be able to go to the poll and vote for your favorite idea, and you'll even be able to send your friends to vote for you. The poll will run through the end of May.

1st place: 2 free sterling cored beads from my store
2nd place: 1 free sterling cored bead from my store
3rd place: $10 credit towards your next purchase.

So let's hear your ideas! You can send me your ideas in a convo on etsy, in your order notes on your next order, or you can email me at beadsbytraci@gmail.com I'll write you back to confirm your entry.

Thanks guys!
